Alex Gold imitated Michael Jackson including the famous “Moonwalk”. During the concert the musicians took it in turns to sing, do the announcements or joke around in between their songs. With the song “I got Uke Babe” ajar to Bono’s and Cher’s version of “I got you Babe” they didn’t only prove how superb they manage to play the “small guitars” but also how well they can sing. Alex Gold, Peter Baynes, Sarah Dale, Alan Dawson, Stuart Crout, Lesley Cunningham and Andrew Wild on the ukuleles and Stephen Truman on bass spanned the arc from Mozart’s “Rondo alla Turca” to “Help” from the Beatles and “Viva la Vida” from Coldplay. Their concert in the filled Hugenotten hall was a fast journey through all different kinds of music genres from pop to classic and from film music to Jazz. They look like distinguished Brits in evening suits or dresses but they are sly old dogs: the Ladies and Gentlemen of the United Kingdom Ukulele Orchestra. The eight musicians finally said “goodbye” to the audience with “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life” which they definitely implemented to the audience as a thought for the next few hours after a wonderful evening with “TUKUO”. It was the mixture which made it perfect.Īll in all it was great fun to listen to the unusual sound of the Ukulele, an instrument for people who don’t take themselves to seriously. The audience madly chanted the same way as to Mozart’s “Rondo Alla Turca”. For “Billie Jean” they performed a persiflage of the King of Pop. Garden hose sirens smashed over heads or builders helmets which ended up on the sometimes very British hairstyles. These Brits and Scots use slapstick to the extend. The quality of the show is reflected by the great performance and also by their spontaneous interaction.
They even managed challenging productions like John Farnham’s “You are the voice” or Queens “Bohemian Rhapsody” in which they also proved their solo and accompanying skills. Polyphonic ukuleles pitches, harmonic singing and playing were presented by the group. The eight musicians were always good for a surprise.
NOBODY WANNA SEE US TOGETHER UKULELE MAC
They performed Fleetwood Mac to Griegs “In The Hall Of The Mountain King”, the Beatles and Mozart.
Seven miniature guitars, a bass and eight musicians who combine humour, singing and playing skills,- the evening couldn’t have been more entertaining The United Kingdom Ukulele Orchestra (TUKUO ) presented their new programme ” I Got Uke Babe” in the Mannheimer Rosengarten.
